Golf Scholarships
College golf truly is the gateway to the top tiers of the professional game. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler (University of Texas), European Ryder Cup star Viktor Hovland (Oklahoma State) and Jackson Koivun (Auburn University), a winner in his rookie PGA Tour season, all cut their teeth on the collegiate circuit.
Swedish golf sensation Ludvig Aberg made history by finishing No.1 in the 2023 PGA Tour University Ranking, becoming the first player ever to earn direct fully exempt access to the PGA TOUR through collegiate merit. Incredibly, he made his Ryder Cup debut the same season.
The standard of competition is fierce at the top levels of NCAA golf, with players enjoying the opportunity to compete against the best in the world, on world-class courses such as TPC Sawgrass, Pebble Beach and Augusta National, to name but a few. College golf is a pipeline for PGA Tour talent with roughly 60% of current PGA Tour players developed through the American collegiate system.
FirstPoint USA is proud to have 2016 Masters champion Danny Willet and 2-time PGA Tour winner Russell Knox as our alum, while World Amateur Team Championship winner Callum Macaulay, who attended the top ranked Ole Miss golf program, is another former FirstPoint athlete.

From the start of the process through to the end, FirstPoint USA’s service was first class and I’m so grateful for the work they did in securing me a place at Wisconsin, one of the leading teams in the country. The team are so knowledgeable, and the Talent Management team did a brilliant job in connecting me with some great coaches. They watched me play, they’re very proactive and it felt very personalised to what I needed.

In a very short space of time he’s had his first offer of interest. FirstPoint USA have been brilliant - no waffle, straight talking about the reality of what happens and quick to act when we’ve had any queries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not all colleges that are eligible to offer scholarships will choose to do so. For example, Ivy League universities do not offer athletic scholarships. Golf is an equivalency sport which means all scholarships are not full scholarships. For example, in NCAA D1, men’s golf coaches can divide the value of the 4.5 scholarships available to them between as many players as they see fit.

Earning a golf scholarship is more than just about shooting low scores; it’s about posting scores in the right tournaments. Coaches generally like to see a full season of 36 - 72 holes tournament scores. Our Golf Team will help advise on the relevant tournaments and schedules to play that will give you the best opportunity to be recognized as a potential recruit.
Coaches will only come to your tournaments once we have established contact and proven you are an active recruit. Often, coaches are very particular about the tournaments they visit, so be prepared to go to those tournaments first. For example, in Europe, coaches will often attend European Boys & Girls Team Championships and R&A British Boys and Girls Amateur championships. Coaches do attend tournaments in USA if they are at the required level.

With golf being a non-revenue sport, having good academics will help open-up more opportunities. The more universities you can qualify for academically, the higher your chance will be of earning a scholarship.
Fall season: August/September through October or early November, with teams usually playing 3 to 5 tournaments. These events count toward rankings and help teams build their postseason resume.
Spring season: February through April, with another 4 to 6 tournaments leading into conference championships.
Postseason: Conference championships are typically held in April, followed by NCAA Regionals and the NCAA Championships in May and early June.
The academic requirements for what a college golf coach is looking for varies based on university and division level. Our Talent Management Team will advise and support on what your academic equivalent is in US GPA and advise on your potential options accordingly.
